My favorite part of every day is the time I set aside to learn.
It’s weird because it’s not something I ever did when I worked a regular job. But with an online business, it’s important to always set aside time to learn something new. You’re here because you’re wondering what you should look for in a blog course.
At first, I would feel like I was cheating. Like learning was not part of “work”.
But it is. It’s one of the most important parts.
This is why I am so glad you are here trying to figure out how to choose the right blogging course!
It’s easy for someone like me to say you should sign up for my blogging course.
But there is more to it than that when you think about a blog course.
I think it’s important for you to understand what you want to get out of a blogging course because it’s very easy to fall into the trap of getting a course that simply shows you how to get a blog set up.
Which really isn’t going to help you do anything at all!
So what do you do?
You need to understand what your goals are first.
1. Define Your Blogging Goals
For me, whenever I start a blog the main goal is to make money.
I’m not ashamed to say that. I assume you feel the exact same way and that’s why you’re here.
If I’m going to devote a large amount of time to something that doesn’t involve my family or friends or volunteering, then I want money from it. Money makes my life easier.
Money is the equivalent of oxygen in today’s world. Nobody in their right mind is going to turn down extra money.
That doesn’t mean the blog itself won’t help people because it will. That’s the best way to build an audience.
But I don’t want to neglect the fact that if I am going to continue working on the blog then it needs to make money to keep my interest.
So that is one thing that a blog course should 100% help you do.
I don’t mean to teach you the different ways to make money blogging. I mean to show you how to make money and do so in an effective way.
If the goal of a course is to just show you how to make money with affiliate marketing or ads then it’s limiting your potential with a blog. Think about it.
You bust your ass to create a ton of content and at some point, you finally get to 100,000 pageviews a month.
Over 80,000 people are now coming to your site and you’re making just $1,000.
80,000 people.
That’s a lot of people. Don’t you think you should be making more?
I do. But before you even get to that part you need to build a strong foundation.
What does that involve?
2. Choosing the Right Niche
It all starts here.
If you choose a bad niche then you’ve already crippled your chances of being successful with a blog.
On the other hand, if you choose the right niche it’s like getting a head start in a race.
Every single blog that I create begins in a niche that I know will work.
There is no guesswork behind what I do.
I do the research and understand what I’m getting into so that I give myself the best odds of making money.
3. Choosing a Revenue Stream
One of the worst things that you can do is start a blog, work on it for months, and then try to figure out how to make money from it.
You don’t want to do that.
You want to go into this with a Blogging Business Plan.
By no means do you have to create a plan that is so strict you can’t veer away from it, but you need a plan so you can understand the strategy that you’re going to take.
If you’re going to make most of your money with ads then you should understand what niches you should enter and what content you should write.
Again, you want a course that is going to show you how to make money in the best ways possible. That way you’re not limited to the potential that you have with your blog.
This leads me to…
4. Finding Content
A blog is obviously nothing without content but how do you find the right content for your site?
If you think a good strategy is to simply write whatever you feel then you’re really going to have a hard time with all of this.
However, if you understand how to find the right kind of content for your audience then again, you’ve made your chances of success that much greater.
5. Attracting an Audience
Finally, you need to know how to attract an audience.
If you can’t attract an audience then it doesn’t matter what else you do, you won’t make any money, and remember one of the major goals is to make money.
Bonus: Experience
When it comes to people teaching you how to build a blog there seems to be a big problem. They really only have experience building one blog and making it successful.
It’s like someone performing one surgery and then thinking they are qualified to show you how it’s done.
Every blog is different because every niche is different. If someone builds a successful blog in the craft niche then it makes sense that they could show you how to build a successful blog in the same niche.
But what if you want to do personal finance? Travel? Cooking?
Do the same rules apply?
You need to be careful of the people who are telling you that they can show anyone how to build a successful blog when you aren’t even sure if they could replicate their own success.
What to Look for in a Blog Course: The Core Concepts
So to sum it up you want a blog course that helps you with the following:
- Help you reach your goals
- Choosing the right niche
- Choosing your revenue stream(s)
- Choosing the right content
- Attracting an audience
If you know these five things then you’ll find great success on your blog journey.
I’ve helped over 2,000 students create blog businesses and I currently run over 6 blogs myself.
That number used to be much higher but there is only so much time in this world.
My goals are to not only help you with your first blog but to also lay out a framework that you can easily follow over and over and over again if you wish to create more blogs.
You will not find a more thorough step-by-step course showing you everything that you need to create that life-changing blog that you’ve dreamed about.
