That Thing You Don’t Have Time for…

I used to wake up everyday in a stressed state of mind but I never noticed it because I had gotten used to it.

What was I going to post today on social media? If I didn’t figure it out then it would mean a $0 day and I couldn’t afford that.

Even worse were the days when I thought I did well, and nothing jumped off.

I was trapped in what I now call Engagement Prison, but I didn’t even know it at the time.

Every day looked the same. Create content specifically for Instagram. Dance for TikTok. Write the perfect tweet thread. Chase whatever platform was hot that week. And pray that somehow, in all of that chaos, enough people would find their way to my offers.

The worst part was that I knew this wasn’t how it was supposed to be. But everyone else was doing the same dance, so clearly, this was the path to success, right?

Then one day I didn’t post.

Anywhere.

I was over it.

I disappeared for a bit and as expected nothing happened with my business. Nobody bought anything because they forgot I existed. I’d get random comments on old posts asking where I was at and an email here and there checking up on me, but my business was effectively dead.

I wouldn’t to get back in the game, but I didn’t want to feel like I was locked in the Engagement Prison forever.

The Wake-Up Call

I couldn’t keep doing this. I couldn’t keep putting my future in the hands of algorithms I couldn’t control. Something had to change.

So I started experimenting. What if I could build traffic that actually belonged to me? Traffic that wouldn’t disappear because some platform changed its mind?

Everyone told me it was impossible. That Google hates AI content. That creating enough content to rank would take years. That I needed to stick to the social media hamster wheel like everyone else.

But I kept pushing. Testing. Learning. Breaking all the “rules” that kept everyone else trapped in Traffic Prison.

And you know what? Something interesting started happening.

The First Signs of Freedom

About three months into my experiment, I noticed something. Posts I’d published weeks ago were starting to bring in traffic. Not much at first. Just a trickle.

But unlike my social media posts that died after 24 hours, these kept working. Day after day. Week after week. Even when I wasn’t actively pushing them.

The trickle turned into a stream. Then the stream started growing. All while I was sleeping.

I’d stumbled onto something that felt too good to be true. But the stats didn’t lie:

  • Traffic that grew month over month
  • Visitors finding me through Google without paying a dime
  • Content that kept working long after I’d created it
  • Freedom from the daily social media grind

Where I Am Now

These days, I wake up to traffic. Not because I danced for TikTok yesterday or threw money at Meta. But because I built something that actually lasts.

Don’t get me wrong. I still use social media. But now it’s on my terms. I’m not desperate for every like or follower because I know my traffic doesn’t depend on it.

I’ve helped other businesses break free too. Not by teaching them some magic formula or selling them a proven template. But by showing them how to build traffic that actually belongs to them.

Want to see how deep this rabbit hole goes?

It’s fun when the numbers go up.
