The Google Reality: What I Actually Found
Google Just Wants Good Content
Let me tell you about the site that changed everything for me.
It was a craft blog that I’d completely forgotten about. I hadn’t touched it in over a year. No new posts. No social media. Nothing.
Then one day, I was checking my analytics and noticed something weird. That abandoned site was getting more traffic than my active sites where I was posting on social media every single day.
How was that possible?
The Accidental Discovery
I dug deeper into the analytics and found something fascinating. While I’d been away, Google had been steadily sending more and more people to my old content.
These weren’t just random visitors either. They were people actively searching for solutions. And they were finding my content. Content I’d written months ago.
That’s when it hit me. I’d been thinking about content all wrong.
The Old Way vs What Actually Works
I used to think about content like social media posts. Create something, share it, watch it die in 24 hours. Rinse and repeat tomorrow.
But this old site showed me something different. The posts that were bringing in traffic? They weren’t dying after 24 hours. They were gaining strength over time.
One post about dollar store crafts that I wrote 18 months ago had brought in more traffic than my last 100 social media posts combined.
The AI Experiment
Around this time, everyone was freaking out about AI content. “Google will penalize it!” they screamed. “You’ll get blacklisted!”
But I was curious. If Google was already sending traffic to my basic craft posts, what would happen if I created better content with AI helping me?
So I tested it.
I started with one site. Then another. Then I helped some clients do the same.
The results surprised even me:
- A post about productivity tools ranking on page 1
- A craft tutorial getting 1,000 visits a month
- A client’s how-to guide bringing in consistent leads
All with AI helping to create the content.

You can believe AI content (done right) will hurt your chances of getting organic traffic or you can see that Google wants what it wants.
Good content.
What I Learned About Google
Here’s what nobody tells you about Google. It doesn’t care if you used AI or not. It cares if your content actually helps people.
I watched this play out across multiple sites:
- Content that truly helped people ranked well
- Shallow, unhelpful content didn’t rank (AI or not)
- Good content kept bringing traffic month after month
The key wasn’t the tool used to create the content. It was the value the content provided.
The New Reality
These days, I don’t worry about whether Google will “catch” me using AI. Because I’m not trying to trick anyone.
Hell, I openly talk about my use of AI.
I use AI to help me create content that actually serves people. Content that:
- Answers real questions
- Solves real problems
- Provides real value
And Google? Google sends more traffic every month.
Where Things Get Interesting
Remember that craft blog I mentioned? The one getting passive traffic?
I decided to run an experiment. What if I added 30 new posts, all created with AI helping me?
The results were better than I expected. But that’s a story for another page…
